Description
A wine tasting tour near Stresa, lake Maggiore and Orta is a good way to discover this land. Do not forget that you are in Piedmont, the Italian region where the famous Barolo and Barbaresco wines are produced!
But these two wines only represent a small portion of the important Piedmont wine production which also includes Barbera, Dolcetto, Grignolino, Freisa, Gavi, Moscato d'Asti...
The Monferrato area and Asti, in the southern part of the region, are well known for their vineyards and top wines, but there is another important area in Piedmont, much closer to Stresa and Lake Maggiore, where fine Piedmont wines (among Italy's best wines) are produced: the hills of Novara - Colline Novaresi - particularly Ghemme and Gattinara, where the same grapes (called Nebbiolo or Spanna) used to make the famous Barbaresco are grown to make the northernmost Piedmont wines known as Ghemme and Gattinara, highest quality wines.
Itinerary
We will reach the hilly area south of Stresa, lake Maggiore and Orta to enjoy a guided tour through the wine cellars of a traditional, family-run winery that produces fine wines with Nebbiolo grapes and Erbaluce.
While learning about the wine making process, we will see very old buildings dating back to centuries ago.
After the guided tour you will enjoy a wine tasting which includes four different local top wines accompanied by bread, local cheese and salami.
